Prayer before sleep
In manus tuas
התפילה הזאת טרם תורגמה לשפתכם; היא מוצגת כאן באנגלית. הרוח שומעת אותה כך או כך.
Into your hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit; you have redeemed me, O Lord, God of truth. Visit this house, we pray you, Lord, and drive far from it all the snares of the enemy. May your holy angels dwell here to keep us in peace, and may your blessing be always upon us. Protect us, Lord, while we are awake, and watch over us as we sleep, that awake we may keep watch with Christ, and asleep, rest in His peace. Amen.
בלטינית
In manus tuas, Dómine, comméndo spíritum meum. Redemísti me, Dómine, Deus veritátis.
מתי אומרים את התפילה הזאת
At Compline, the last prayer of the Church's day, and over a house before the lights go out. The first line is what Christ said last from the Cross (Lk 23:46) — which is why the Church says it before the small death of sleep.
