Deliverance

The cry of Bartimaeus

Iesu, Fili David

Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me! The crowd told him to be quiet. He shouted it louder. Do the same.

Pass it on

In Latin

Iesu, Fili David, miserére mei.

When this prayer is prayed

Six words shouted on the Jericho road by a blind beggar the crowd was trying to silence (Mark 10:46–52) — the shortest deliverance prayer in the Gospel, and it stopped the Lord in the middle of the road. Fr Amorth told the afflicted to make this sentence their own and repeat it. His own practice, at the end of his life, was simpler still: the Name of Jesus, said three times, in any ordinary moment of the day.
