When this prayer is prayed
The baptismal renunciation, in the Church's mouth since the third century — Hippolytus records it at the font in Rome. Someone once said it over you, or you said it yourself, and every Easter the whole Church says it again. It is the one formula a baptised person pronounces over their own life with full authority, and no permission is needed to renew it. Say it aloud, in the first person, and mean it: this is where a layperson's deliverance begins.
