Litany of the Holy Spirit

For two voices, or for a family. One reads the invocation; the rest make the response. Lord, have mercy. — Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. — Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. — Lord, have mercy. Holy Spirit, hear us. — Holy Spirit, graciously hear us. To each of these, answer: have mercy on us. Spirit of the Father and of the Son, boundless life of both, Holy Spirit, who are one God with the Father and the Son, Promise of the Father, most bountiful, Gift of God most high, Ray of heavenly light, Author of all good, Fountain of living water, Consuming fire, Burning love, Spiritual anointing, Spirit of truth and of power, Spirit of wisdom and understanding, Spirit of counsel and fortitude, Spirit of knowledge and piety, Spirit of the fear of the Lord, Spirit of compunction, Spirit of grace and of prayer, Spirit of peace and of meekness, Spirit of chastity, Spirit who governs the Church, Spirit who fills the whole world, Spirit of the adoption of the children of God, Answer: deliver us, O Lord. From all evil, From every sin, From the temptations of the enemy, From presumption and despair, From resisting the known truth, From obstinacy and impenitence, From every uncleanness of mind and body, From the spirit of fornication, From all evil desire, From perpetual unhappiness, Answer: we beseech you, hear us. That you would spare us, That you would pardon us, That you would bring us to true penance, That you would pour yourself out upon all flesh, That you would give your Church unity and peace, That you would keep those who govern her in your truth, That you would confirm the weak and raise the fallen, That you would give us the fruit you promised, That you would bring us at last to see the Father, Lamb of God, who take away the sins of the world, — send us your Spirit. Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful, and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit, and they shall be created, and you shall renew the face of the earth. Let us pray. God, who taught the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit, grant us by that same Spirit to be truly wise, and always to rejoice in his consolation.
