Prayer to St George
Saint George, soldier of Christ, you did not go looking for the dragon: you were passing, you heard a city weeping, and you turned your horse around. Give me your courage — not the courage that feels no fear, but the courage that rides in afraid. Guard those who defend others: soldiers, police, doctors, fathers, mothers, and every person who stands today between someone weak and something cruel. And when my own dragon comes, let me not run. Amen.
When this prayer is prayed
On 23 April, his feast, and by soldiers, police and anyone facing a fight not of their choosing. Martyred at Lydda under Diocletian around 303; the dragon entered the story later, and told the truth about what he actually did.
